Nasty Cherry, a British-American alt-pop girl group, have taken an unconventional route to the mainstream, after being carefully selected and put together by British pop star Charli XCX and her best friend Emmie Lichtenberg.
The band, made up of singer Gabbriette Bechtel, guitarist Chloe Chaidez, bassist Georgia Somary and drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson, formed as part of the Netflix series, I’m With the Band: Nasty Cherry, which was announced in October via airdrop to fans at XCX’s NYC show, where she wrote ‘Over the past year, I’ve been making and starring in a TV show about my favourite band (who I put together) — Nasty Cherry’. The series, which premiered on November 15, follows the band through the highs and lows of the music industry and was described by The Guardian as ‘a riotous clash of Big Brother meets Drag Race meets Spice World’. Following its release, Nasty Cherry played a secret gig at The Curtain in Shoreditch, and have announced their debut EP, Season 1, which drops on November 22.
